What would they do with all the cool gardening gear if they get the most votes? "We will be delighted to use them at the Bright Smile Community Garden to continue to improve and expand the work we do there. Samantha is also part of a group creating a second Community Garden in Thames which at this stage has no physical resources, eg tools and equipment, so we may be able to use some of the prizes there."

Te Kowhai News is working with CommSafe to collate and share crime and safety information in our area.

CommSafe is an organisation which collects your tip-offs on any dodgy going-on's in the area and shares them with their database across the district. Why? Because many tip-offs added together build a more complete picture of the problem and that information is often what Police - and locals - need.

We need a volunteer in Te Kowhai who can:

1. Round up crime and safety information from Neighbourly and our various Facebook pages and email it to CommSafe each week. These would be posts anyone has made about vehicles casing out houses, items being stolen, burglaries, vandalism, boy racers, antisocial behaviour, that sort of thing.

2. Receive the CommSafe weekly Neighbourhood Support email and post it back to Neighbourly and Facebook.

3. Be the eyes and ears for Te Kowhai should anyone want to call you to discuss concerns, anything they've seen or would like to report, and pass that information to the relevant group (Police if it is an issue that needs Police attention, or CommSafe if it's something others simply need to be made aware of).

You will need to be computer literate and able to find your way around Facebook and Neighbourly. You will need to be accessible and not have a problem with people in the community contacting you by phone on occasions to share information with you.

This is an ongoing role which would suit anyone wanting to help out their community who already uses social media. Parent or teenager, professional or retiree. This is a role which you can add to your CV (Crime & Safety Communications Co-ordinator sound OK to you?) and Te Kowhai News would be happy to support you with a reference.

Email: tekowhainews@gmail.com if you're interested or call me on 0220 166 828.
