Passed away suddenly on April 13, 2023, at the age of 83. Adair was cremated surrounded by close family on April 19 and her ashes will be laid to rest in Livingstone cemetery, North Otago, with her parents, sister and nephew. Adair (MacMillan), born in Oamaru, was brought up in Livingstone, where she spent many happy days. At the age of 13, together with her mother and sister, they took an intrepid journey to live in Edinburgh for a year visiting family. Upon return to NZ nursing was Adair’s calling and she began training at Burwood Hospital where she made life-long friends and met her future husband, John Chisholm. Married in 1961 (61 years ago), Adair and John finally settled in Stourbridge Street for 51 years, bringing up their children, Alistair, Gillian and Christine. Adair was a busy person caring for her family, teaching cane classes at night, feeding delicious burgers and pies to the boys at the Old Boys Rugby club, volunteering at the Red Cross and playing tennis, before returning to nursing at St John of God. Adair was a force to be reckoned with as the infection control nurse and again made more life-long friends. At the age of 58, Adair decided to finish her training as a registered nurse, graduating in March 2000 with more life-long friends. She worked for the next decade, only retiring at age 70. Later in life, Adair concentrated on her grandchildren, gardening, painting, watching tennis as well as any other sport on TV! She used to love to sit on the terrace and feed her friendly blackbird “Billy”, who would come at her call. No flowers, please, but donations are welcome to St John Ambulance.
Miss you so much Adair!
Life will be duller without you.
