Hospitals in the region are being emptied out and will be reduced to essential services tomorrow as thousands of nurses and healthcare workers stop work. The industrial action will run from 7am Thursday for 24 hours.

What you need to know:
• NMH will contact affected patients directly. People should come to their scheduled appointment unless they have been contacted to say their appointment is being postponed. Patients or other members of the public can also call NMH on 0800 733 372 to check the status of their appointment.
• On the day of the strike, people should still go to hospital if the matter is urgent. Dial 111 for emergencies or an ambulance.
• Visit the Medical and Injury Centre in Nelson and Urgent Care Centre in Blenheim for after-hours care
• Otherwise, people should visit their GP or a local pharmacy.
• Free medical advice is available 24/7 at 0800 611 116.

The NMH website will have the most up to date notices about the strikes and effects on healthcare services.

Police are concerned for the safety of a 13-year-old boy missing in the Tasman area. Tryson Thompson was last seen in the Rai Valley area late on Wednesday, July 4.

It's possible he has tried to hitch-hike to Nelson - we would ask anyone who may have seen him or picked him up, to please get in touch with Police. Tryson is of slight build, and has a distinctive birthmark on his right cheek.

It has been very cold in the area, and Police are urgently seeking any information of where Tryson may be - please call 111 if you can help.
