The city council has finalised its plans to upgrade 72 of the city's wells. When that work is completed it will mean about two-thirds of the city's water supply will be unchlorinated.

However, the timing of the works will depend on the availability of drilling machines and specialist contractors. It is also constrained by the number of wells that can be taken out of service, especially over the summer months when there is a high demand for water.

Unless people are willing to cut back on their water use, they won't be able to do much work over summer. The council may also have to resume using the below ground well heads we've shut off, which means water from those pump stations will have to be chlorinated.

Kamala Hayman Reporter from The Press

Do you think granny flats and sleep outs should be charged separately for rates? Selwyn District Council says yes, the Christchurch City Council says only if it has a full kitchen.

Trucks honking their horn

Christina from Waltham

Does anyone know why trucks when passing through Brougham St, and in between Ensors Rd and Opawa Rd honk their horn? At first I thought it was because of road rage, but it happens so often I’m thinking it’s some form of Truckee recognition?

Hi Neighbours, I now have full details about the SINGFEST18 event being launched this weekend, and the Organiser has written about it, as follows:

Over the past few months we have been talking to people in the CBD, the business sector & the ChCh City Council, and we have listened to some amazing, often world class, choral performances which never reach beyond the walls of churches and indoor venues. We felt it was time to bring it to the people.
And so to that end, we are launching SingFest18, a short, weekend festival of singing to be held in outdoor spaces where possible, in the CBD, from 24-26 August 2018. It is hoped that this will become an annual feature on our calendar &, who knows? it may turn into a week-long celebration in the future!
This event will be shaped by the contributions of our singing community and represent a wide range of ensembles.
The timing of the event has been carefully considered so that groups are all at their performance peaks.
It also falls nicely after The Big Sing Secondary Choirs Regional Contest in June & the Finale (30 Aug-1 Sept).

I will now add the two pages of events of what choir is singing where and when, although on the first page, they have missed out SOUTH BRIGHTON VOICES' performance at Cathedral Junction at 10.00 a.m. on Saturday, as advised to you all in my previous post.  I think this whole weekend is going to be a great event;  don't miss it!

Numerous choirs will be performing in designated public areas in the city over that weekend, at various times, so I thought I would let you know about our two choirs, namely SOUTH BRIGHTON VOICES and SHORELINE ENSEMBLE, who are also taking part. Our performances will be on Saturday 25th August, as follows:
CATHEDRAL JUNCTION: 10.00 a.m, starting with South Brighton Voices, who sing for 20 minutes;
BALLENTYNE BRIDGE/THE CROSSING: 10.40 a.m. Shoreline Ensemble sing for 20 minutes;
BALLENTYNE BRIDGE/THE CROSSING: 11.15 a.m. South Brighton Voices then sing for 20 minutes (same songs as at Cathedral Junction);
CATHEDRAL JUNCTION: 12.20 p.m. Shoreline Ensemble then sing for 20 minutes (same songs as at Ballantyne Bridge).
Most of the songs we are singing are well known popular songs, such as Moon River, Green Leaves of Summer, Hallelujah, The Rose, Mamma Mia!, just to name a few, and hopefully, if this event is successful, the organisers may well make it an annual event.  That would be great!

Hi again Neighbours, I have been asked to post the note below on Neighbourly, on behalf of our singing group, as follows:

Our a' cappella group is in need of an extra Tenor and a Bass.
This friendly group has 9 singers, Sopranos Altos Tenor and Basses.
We practise each Friday morning from 10 am till 1 pm, in New Brighton.
Our repertoire is varied. Most items are short. Some are more complex and longer.
We sing for pleasure and perform about 3 times per year.
But our group is short of MEN!!

To join us you need to be able to read music and have done some choral singing.
We all learn our parts during our Friday sessions, with the help of a keyboard.
That usually takes us longer than we expect, so we allow plenty of time to learn new music.

We would like to hear from you.
Come to a practice and see what you think.
Please contact Steve on 3820896 or Liz on 3880617 for further details.

If you would like the chance to listen to our little group, have a look at my previous post headed SINGFEST18.
