All parties have to submit their policies for their 3 year term 2 months before the GE.
They then do their canvassing and talking about those policies as they tour around.
Currently, they are putting out policies and counter policies while people can not keep up with where each party is.
Obviously the last of the policies has very little time to be digested and debated.
It is like Xmas with Santa Claus handing out Xmas presents to the kiddies.

Christchurch has been named as a finalist for New Zealand’s most beautiful large city - competing against Tauranga for the honour.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful announced the finalists of its Beautiful Awards 2023 on Tuesday. The not-for-profit organisation has held the awards annually since 1972 and this year's winners will be announced November 9.

“The awards are a chance for Kiwis to put their community on the map and to celebrate a stand-out sustainability initiative," Keep New Zealand Beautiful chief executive Heather Saunderson said.

“This collective contribution is key to maintaining the biodiversity of Aotearoa and to creating a waste and climate conscious future for the next generations.

Christchurch was selected as a finalist in the large city category (major urban area with 100,000 or more residents) because of its council’s focus on sustainable local food production and distribution systems, a statement by Keep New Zealand Beautiful said.

Could a permanent police helicopter be in the pipeline for Christchurch?

As authorities in the city grapple with a wave of car thefts and reckless driving by youths, top brass haven’t ruled it out.

In the last 10 months, police in Christchurch have chartered commercial helicopters to help catch rampant young offenders on four occasions, most recently on Wednesday when a trio of youngsters in a stolen car left a trail of havoc from Heathcote to Belfast – ripping up a sports field, forcing a school into lockdown, and closing part of a highway.

They allow fleeing drivers to be tracked from the air, meaning officers don’t have to engage in risky pursuits, particularly when roads are busy during the daytime. It also spares their patrol cars from being damaged by youth offenders, who’ve shown a willingness to ram their way out of tricky situations.

This email is a scam and anyone who receives it should not reply under any circumstances. It’s important to note that Police and other government agencies will never contact you out of the blue and ask for your password, credit card or bank details.
Anyone who received this email scam is asked to send it as an attachment in an email to the Police Cybercrime Team: cybercrime@police.govt.nz

Apartment buildings up to 10 storeys high will be allowed in Hornby, Riccarton and Papanui, if the Christchurch City Council has its way.

The council is working through changes to the district plan to allow for more housing intensification across the city, following a Government directive. It went out to public consultation earlier this year on a plan to allow six-storey (22m) buildings within 600m of main shopping areas in Hornby, Papanui, and Riccarton - a move that was opposed by residents’ associations.

But last week staff informed councillors, in a memo, that they would instead be recommending 10-storey buildings, 32m high, within the three main shopping areas. It was also recommending 22m-high buildings, 800m from the edge of those main shopping areas.

What do you think? Read reporter Tina Law's full story here (subscription required) and share your thoughts in the comments below.

*CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said 32m high buildings were proposed within 800m of the main shopping areas in Hornby, Papanui and Riccarton. Buildings of that height are allowed within those main shopping areas and 22m is proposed 800m out from the edge of those shopping areas. (Amended 5.24pm, August 30, 2023)
