What did you think of your city's Botanic D'Lights festival? About 136,000 people visited the event over five nights last week. And now your city's gardens are set to be lit up all year round, thanks to a new light installation. However some ratepayers have questioned the $900,000 cost to keep the Armstrong Lawn area adjacent to Rolleston Ave, lit.
So let's hear your thoughts. Are you happy for your rates to go towards the lighting display? Or do you think the money should be best spent elsewhere? Let us know in the replies!

The city council has finalised its plans to upgrade 72 of the city's wells. When that work is completed it will mean about two-thirds of the city's water supply will be unchlorinated.
However, the timing of the works will depend on the availability of drilling machines and specialist contractors. It is also constrained by the number of wells that can be taken out of service, especially over the summer months when there is a high demand for water.
Unless people are willing to cut back on their water use, they won't be able to do much work over summer. The council may also have to resume using the below ground well heads we've shut off, which means water from those pump stations will have to be chlorinated.

Do you think granny flats and sleep outs should be charged separately for rates? Selwyn District Council says yes, the Christchurch City Council says only if it has a full kitchen.

We pricked out 200 seedling Wineberry, (great for bird food) into 50x50 pots, sowed Kahikatea, Lancewood and griselinia littoralis seed all eco sourced from Travis wetland. Then we finished off the two hours potting 100 coprosma robusta and another 100 mixture of marble leaf and Manuka seedlings into PB3’s from the 50x50’s. All this done in our two hour slot. Next session Sat Sept 1st 2-4pm at the SBHS Nursery (meet in the carpark beside ther double story block off Averil St. Bring gumboots). Thanks to Canterbury Landscape Services, CSL Ltd who provides the excellent potting mix and seed raising mix as well as pumice free as a gift to SBHS. Thank you, Phil and your team. The nursery is growing well and even the Konini is busting back into leaf after looking very naked and dead from the heavy frosts. About 50 of our trees will be going out into a planting at Horseshoe Lake next Saturday as part of Otakaro Forest Park’s regular Working Bee there. More habitat and bird food for our native species. Thanks again. Regards David.
