Greater Christchurch Public Transport Joint Committee member and Environment Canterbury chair Steve Lowndes says that providing free public transport on World Car-free Day is an opportunity for people to try their local service, leave the car at home for the day, and to think about the sort of public transport system needed across Greater Christchurch.

Bernard Anderson said he was walking past the earthquake-damaged cathedral in central Christchurch in May when he saw a black cat leave the building followed by three kittens. "She wasn't as well nourished as domestic cats. She was smaller. It seemed quite obvious that they were living in the cathedral."
The kittens were curious about his presence and he was able to photograph one with his cellphone camera, he said. The slightly blurry images show what appears to be a very fluffy black kitten sitting on the pavement.
The derelict cathedral, which has been open to the elements for several years, also provides a home for dozens of pigeons.

Old freezer to give away. Is in working condition but seals are broken (see photo) and it builds up with ice along front on the inside. Has been unused for over a year but have run it over the weekend and it is working. Dimensions approx 91cm high x 71 wide x 61 deep. Pick-up only in St Albans.
