One dead after suspicious house fire in suburban Christchurch

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the suspicious blaze at the Caulfield Ave, Halswell home just after 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Police are at the scene of a suspicious house fire where a person has died in suburban Christchurch.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the suspicious blaze at the Caulfield Ave, Halswell home just after 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gregg Cottam said police and fire crews found a person dead at the home. The cause of death was "unexplained" at this stage, he said.

Christchurch metro area commander David Stackhouse said two fire crews from Wigram and Spreydon attended the blaze.

He said the blaze was described as a "smouldering fire" and was extinguished not long after arrival.

The cause of the fire was unknown. Police and fire investigators would investigate, he said.

The $6.8 million Quarryman's Trail cycleway will run from Halswell to the central city via Sparks Rd, Roker St and Antigua St. The first stage, which covers 4.6 kilometres from Moorhouse Ave to Victors Rd in Hoon Hay, is expected to open by the end of the month.

The Christchurch City Council planned to upgrade 102 wells within a year, then dechlorinate the city's water supply – but there are questions over whether any have yet been repaired to the standards required.

Councillors voted in January to chlorinate the city's water supply after experts warned of there was a low risk of contamination. The council authorised chlorination for up to 12 months while the work was done.

Work on at least 19 was meant to have been finished by now, but the city council has indicated that none have been completed yet.

Am I the only one that suffering with the 'home help support services' from the so called providers? If so, is it due to either or all of these. My sticky behaviour, personal prejudice, underflowing racism, demanding a quality job from them, their difficulty in getting professionally committed workers, is it the unending waiting response from their call centres, any thing else? What ever may be the case, these services are mercilessly populating my already fully filled plate. Am I alone in this way here?
