One hundred electric pedal-assist bikes will be available for hire, each coming with a helmet, a lock and lights. They will cost $1 to unlock and 38 cents per minute to use, the same price as Lime's e-scooters.
The bikes will have a range of 30 to 60 kilometres and people can hire them using the Lime or Uber apps.

The work approved by the council includes:
- Replacing or covering structures with rocks along the estuary edge to reduce erosion risk and introducing a cobble beach with an offshore breakwater to encourage the saltmarsh to form a natural form of erosion protection.
- Building a new bund in to reduce the flood risk.
- Restoring the estuary edge in South New Brighton with a cobble beach.
- Constructing a new bund between the jetty near Beatty St and the southern end of the campground in Halsey St.
Work on the northern section of the bund will be completed in 2021 following the bird-nesting season. This bund, alongside the additional bunds approved last week, will together aim to reduce flood risk along the estuary edge.

Hi all, after over 2 months of waiting for ideal conditions to shoot Orion I finally got the moonless clear skies I was hoping for last night, so trundled off to Kaitorete Spit arriving around 11:30pm - first shot is Orions Belt (although its more a pot from the Southern Hemisphere since we see it … View moreHi all, after over 2 months of waiting for ideal conditions to shoot Orion I finally got the moonless clear skies I was hoping for last night, so trundled off to Kaitorete Spit arriving around 11:30pm - first shot is Orions Belt (although its more a pot from the Southern Hemisphere since we see it upside down compared to the northern hemisphere astronomers who named it) :) - 2nd shot is the Great Orion and Running Man nebulae - 3rd shot is Horsehead and Flame nebulae. Kaitorete is a good spot; much closer than Tekapo, and so long as you don't point the camera low in the sky in the northern quadrant you won't have Chch light pollution in the shot. :)

New Zealand Police's Financial Intelligence Unit estimates New Zealanders lose $20-30 million annually to scams.
HOW TO AVOID A SCAM:
+ A genuine bank or organisation will never contact you to ask for your PIN, password or to move money to another account.
+ Never click on a link in an unexpected email or text – you could be giving access to your personal and financial details.
+ Always question uninvited approaches in case it is a scam. Instead, contact the company directly using a known email or phone number.
+ Don’t assume an email or phone call is authentic – just because someone knows your basic details (name and address, or mother’s maiden name) it doesn’t mean they are genuine.
+ Don’t be rushed into making a decision or financial transaction on the spot – a genuine bank or trusted organisation would never do this.
+ Listen to your instincts – if something feels wrong then it generally is.
If you believe you are the victim of a scam you can contact Police and report the matter via 105.

Emma was diagnosed with foetal alcohol syndrome and reactive attachment disorder. Parenting her became a nightmare, and it ended in tragedy.
Emma has faced more challenges and rejections than most people could cope with. And now, she wants to take on the biggest challenge of her life - finding answers to those most fundamental questions: who am I? Where did I come from?
