"Dear Gaurav,
I humbly express my earnest appreciation and gratitude for the professional assistance and generous efforts that you have extended to me and to my family. The police and medical waiver which you have prepared have successfully led to the approval of our residency visa. This is tantamount to saying that what you did to us was noteworthy and commendable.
We are truly overjoyed for having granted our visa. Indeed our life will never be the same. From now on, our family could stay in this country and we will never be apart from our growing children.
My heartfelt thanks
Romulo & family"

The law says public holidays exist to observe days of “national, religious, or cultural significance”, but most of our holidays aren’t expressly Kiwi.
We’re overdue the creation of a unifying holiday that honours Aotearoa’s past and celebrates New Zealand’s future. Matariki is that holiday.

We are excited that our fundraising campaign to build two new homes for the people we support with intellectual disability is now half-way to our target of $2.2 million! We are absolutely thrilled to announce an incredible gift of $500,000 from local Christchurch-based trust, the Lamar Charitable Trust.
Lamar Charitable Trust has a mission to provide financial support for disability organisations in need. This is truly a life-changing gift to our community. We look forward to building the two new homes, and welcoming a further 12 people with intellectual disability to join our Hohepa community, which will help reduce our current waiting list.
With the challenges we have all been facing, in adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is testament to the good in the world. Please share to spread the good news!

I'd never want to cause one unnecessary pain or suffering, which is why we've chosen to manage pests in our home with traps. It's not ideal, but it's better - and safer - than poison. I've done a little research on humane, effective vermin control during the wet months, when they like to come in from the cold. Take a look:

I'm working on a travel story for Stuff about the things that have surprised returning Kiwis about New Zealand. If you have recently returned from overseas or know someone who has, it would be great to hear about the things that have stood out for you, for better or for worse. Whether it's to do with the weather, the cost of things, the public transport, the food, the housing, the people or something else entirely, we'd be keen to hear about it. Please remember that your comment may be included in the article, unless you say you don't want it to be. Thank you.

"My neighbour Ann, a retired special ed teacher, goes the extra mile for her community. On her neighbourhood walks she notices blocked drains, or dangerous pavements on school routes and spends time phoning the Council to get them fixed. She is part of a local group that petitioned for new school crossings on Takanini School Road. She volunteers at the local school for free maths tuition. She sets a really great example of looking out for her community and makes the world a better place."
