Auckland Transport's solution for illegally parked car transporters on Great North Rd
Hi neighbours. Auckland Transport has revealed some of its plans to "maximise the use of available space" on Great North Rd in Grey Lynn in attempt to stop car transporters loading and offloading vehicles on the roadside and flush median.
There are at least 15 car yards on Great North Rd, most of which don't have loading facilities on their properties.
Pedestrians have reported ramps being lowered on the road, cars being reversing into oncoming traffic, cyclists struggling to navigate around them and a transporter parked completely over the top of a pedestrian island.
The plans included incorporating loading zones for vehicles including car transporters, removing the flush median and installing speed tables (like elongated speed bumps) to manage speed.
