Hilton Hotel Auckland King Deluxe Harbour View Room 1 Night Stay For Sale!
My partner Mary and I got married on 14th December 2019 at home because she has stage 4 breast cancer meaning it has now spread to her lungs and chest wall and started her first Chemo session on 19th December 2019 meaning that her hair is falling out and she will be shaving her head in the next few days. Mary has had 6 surgeries since she found out about the cancer 4 years ago. All have been traumatic and the most recent having a port value put in her chest in order to get good access for the Chemo fluids as injections directly in to the vain can cause corrosion and damage to the veins.
We had a beautiful intimate wedding at home which we organised in less than 3 weeks because Mary wanted to have her wedding day pics while she still had her long black hair that she has been growing for over 3 years now.

As you can imagine having this very advanced disease at 32 years old has been challenging and we were blessed to receive a very generous gift voucher from her friend and boss to stay at the Hilton Auckland in the King Deluxe Harbour view room with breakfast in the Fish restaurant valued at well over $600.00 as a wedding gift along with flowers and chocolates on arrival.

The voucher doesn’t expire until June 2020, but Mary wanted to make the most of the time she had with her hair so we could have dinner in the restaurant at the hotel and watch the fireworks from the comfort of our room which would have been extra spectacular since this is also the turn of the decade and there were also fireworks being displayed at the port along with the sky city to celebrate this momentous occasion.

So, I made a call through to the reservations team to try and see if this high-end room would be available at this late stage and to my surprise I was told by the reservation team that it was.

To be honest I couldn’t believe my luck that they had availability!

So we headed off into town and worked our way through the mess that is Auckland Cities current traffic system.

On arrival we were met by a valet and informed that there was no customer parking apart from Valet at a cost of $45.00! I gave him the keys of my car only to watch him drive it around the other side of the building and park it next to reception facing the sea and not even properly sheltered. All I could think was “Lovely, my brand new truck is getting destroyed by salt!”

At the reception they couldn’t initially find my reservation. The young lady behind the counter then informed me that the booking was for January 31st 2020 not new years eve….. so we were told to take a seat, which we did.

We sat and waited patiently and were then greeted by a shift manager who informed us that the room was booked for January 31st and that if we wanted a room tonight we could not use the voucher and the only room they had had 2 single beds and we would need to pay for it. As you can imagine we were shocked and not only that, we would have to pay full rates for a room in high demand on New Years Eve.

When he told me this, I informed him that I hadn’t seen the booking confirmation but was sure it was booked for 31st December 2019. I asked for the recording of the conversation only to be told that they do not keep recordings of the conversations. Very convenient.

So, if their staff mess up the dates and you don’t check the confirmation to make sure that they are not completely incompetent then it is your fault.

I asked to speak to his manager who brought out a printed copy of the confirmation. I explained that I didn’t think I need to check the confirmation considering it was a booking for New Years Eve and even expressed my delight to the reservation lady that they had the room available.

She offered to call up other hotels to get us a booking. I explained, “we live in Auckland, this night was about the experience and a special night for Mary and I” and even explained her medical condition hoping foolishly that this might make a difference.”

We drove home realising that we didn’t even have a table booked for dinner but luckily I managed to get a really nice Filipino restaurant for a late booking in Takapuna.

I have called up and cancelled the booking for January 31st 2020. It also said that the calls are recorded for training and quality purposes…… when I asked for a copy of the recording of the call I originally made, I was told I couldn’t have it. I was however offered a complaints call number….which is a US number. (I wonder what the call charges from my mobile would been for that…more than the cost of the room I would imagine.)

So, longest story in the world made not very short. Would anyone like to buy our gift voucher for the Hilton Hotel in Auckland for a King Deluxe Harbour View Room including Breakfast in the Fish restaurant along with special amenities of flowers and chocolates.

It may make for a beautiful evening on Valentines this year. Only, if you do buy this from us, please ensure to check the confirmation email and maybe even call up to triple confirm just in case.

I can’t do anything about the $45 charge to park your car but I’m sure the views will be worth it.

Also, please try not to set your customer services experience expectations too high as its not a prerequisite to work at the Hilton because hey, it’s the Hilton and they can do what they like.

We have absolutely no interest in returning to this hotel, so we are selling our wedding gift voucher.

Open to offers. Please google the cost of this room for the night you have in mind and make a reasonable offer and we’ll hopefully come to an agreement.

Poll: Should you ask before planting tall shrubs/trees near your property line?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

It may be fine now but in a few years trees can block out light or views for neighbours.

Do you think neighbours should ask before they go ahead and plant these?
