However in 1895, George Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist, proposed a two hour time shift for this very reason, so he’d have more after-work hours of sunshine to go bug hunting in the summer, and thus the modern concept of daylight saving time came to be!
As you enjoy your lighter summer afternoons now that daylight saving time has started, keep an eye out for bugs in your backyard – you never know what you might find!
Here is John Early our Curator of Entomology collecting kelp fly larvae in Takapuna, Robert Vennell our Botany Collection Manager collecting dragonflies in Piha and the daughters of our Land Fauna Collection Manager Ruby Moore off to collect insects from a stream in Ngataki. All in a day's work here at Auckland Museum!

The insurance company has written off about 20m2 of the carpet because of one stain the size of a bread and butter plate which is up one end of the room. The carpet is solution dyed nylon in a sand color and is 5 years old. There is enough to carpet at least one large bedroom, and a small bedroom. Seems a waste to throw it all out when most of it is in good condition.
New carpet will be going in last week of October and so this carpet will be available for collection. You will need to arrange underlay if you want underlay before laying this carpet down. You will also need to arrange collection of the carpet from my house.
Message me if you are interested.
