The Death Pact with Conservation

Andrea from Eden Terrace

The Department of Conservation has confirmed its controversial tahr culling programme is underway.
On Friday afternoon, DOC confirmed it had started its 2020-21 culling programme on Thursday, July16.
A DOC spokesperson said the department intends to undertake 60 hours of aerial control in the Aoraki/Mt Cook and Westland/Tai Poutini national parks, and another 65 hours in other areas of the conservation estate.
DOC operations director Dr Ben Reddiex said thousands of bull tahr and other tahr will be left for trophy hunters across 425,000ha of public conservation land, but in the 148,000ha national parks, New Zealand’s native species needed to come first. Read More...www.stuff.co.nz...

A Corner Stone

High upon a mountain top
Views looking out afar
Where our short-sighted views stop
Exists a planet for the Tahr

To live, to exist
Is the privilege at birth
A right shared by the Tahr
On this barren piece of Earth

Boots made from the hide
Of an animals skin
Will soon be worn by hunters,
To extinguish the life above, where the Tahr are living

Then this mountain high top
Will exist to give life
And this Tahr cease to exist
And this Corner Stone will have only cold fossils for life

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?
