There will be no live gigs (in person at least) and no congregating in our favourite music venues to celebrate the wonder of local music together. These times will come again. But like many others, the music industry will be challenged by the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact.
To show our support for New Zealand music we are sharing some of our favourite posters showcasing Auckland bands and iconic Auckland music venues. These posters offer a glimpse into Auckland’s anarchic, door-kicking punk and new-wave scenes that stomped their way into the city’s late 70s - early 80s musical landscape.
These posters also show how music venues changed and morphed over time, shedding their previous identities and inhabiting new ones. For example, the iconic Edinburgh Castle Hotel on the corner of Symonds Street and Newton Road has had many identities over its 160 years and for the briefest of moments, it was the “notorious” Liberty Stage.
New Zealand Music Month celebrates 20 years this year. For this, and plenty more NZ Music Month discoveries, take a look here.

I would love to make a busy board, something similar to the photos. If you have any second hand items that I could take off your hands - any old hinges/ locks/ door handles/ little mirrors etc , I would love to hear from you =)

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any indoor plant cuttings? I am quite happy to pay via internet banking and do contactless pick up. I've only selected the areas that I do a walk thorough so wouldn't be going out of my bubble area.

If anyone has any old calenders/ material that's similar to the one shown below that they don't mind giving to me I'd be eternally grateful 🙏 I'm on day 12 of the 100-day challenge (you can see my progress in the photo below).

From 11am NZST on Thursday 30 April until Sunday 17 May, Artfair.co.nz will be hosting a Virtual Art Fair where you will discover more than 30 galleries from New Zealand and Australia displaying works that would have otherwise been seen at the 2020 Auckland Art Fair.
The Virtual Art Fair is in recognition of the artists who have already made special works for the Auckland Art Fair that couldn’t happen, and the galleries who have supported them in doing so.
“It comes at a time of global uncertainty, when the importance of art, community and culture are especially apparent,” their team said in a recent statement.
The Auckland Art Fair is designed to be “a celebration – as best we can – of the talent and diversity of art making by artists from our region; not only across New Zealand and Australia, but also around the wider Pacific-rim. We hope that, wherever possible, some of these artists and galleries will be supported by someone buying a work of art.”
Browse, look, enquire and consider as you get to know new galleries and artists in support of contemporary culture at a time when the artists and galleries really need it.
Find out more at www.artfair.co.nz.
