After a long wait, work has begun on replacing the Beach Haven Wharf (Hilder's Park Wharf).
Work is scheduled to take approximately 100 days (weather permitting). The wharf will be closed to the public during construction. Attached is the final design of the new wharf, which is similar to what we have now but will include a new gangway and pontoon.

The work includes:
* Partial demolition of the existing structure and rebuilt
* Encasement of existing pile bases
* New poles with pressed sleeves, bracings and clamps
* New bearers and joists
* New decking, handrail and seat
* New aluminium gangway and concrete pontoon.

More info: ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz...

Background:
The Beach Haven recreational wharf has had restrictions on it for a few years now due to the piles and stairs deteriorating. And because of the heritage designation and engineering considerations, it has taken a very long time to achieve all of the required consents needed to rebuild the wharf.
The project will rebuild the damaged parts of the wharf and piles, strengthening and upgrading it to today's safety standards, while keeping the heritage style of the wharf and providing a new floating pontoon platform for fishing and diving.

Our places need protection from moth pest plant pods - report these plant pods if you see them.

You may have heard of or seen the serious pest plant called moth plant around Auckland or in your neighbourhood. It’s been in the news and community organisations like us have been trying to control and remove it from our neighbourhoods with the help of volunteers.

We’re near the end of moth plant pod season which means any pods left will likely burst and spread thousands of seeds across our gardens and bush areas.

We’re trying to find any remaining moth plant pods and we’re asking you to help us by reporting any you see (see below for how to report).

Why should we care?

The moth plant vines grow up, through and over other plants entangling and smothering them. The milky white sap is an irritant and can cause a skin reaction in some people. So there are good reasons to try to rid our area of this nasty vine.

If we did nothing, most of Kaipātiki’s natural spaces would be covered in moth plant and other pest plants. So thank you to everyone who has helped previously by reporting, removing or disposing of moth plant pods.

How to report: Please look out for the large green pods. Report them using the Ecotrack app or by email to pestplants@pestfreekaipatiki.org.nz (if outside the Kaipātiki area report them to the Society Totally Against Moth Plant or Auckland Council).

Please check the links below.

Hi neighbours,

Fifty-three Auckland cyclists have been turned away from ferries due to a lack of space onboard in the past month, data from Fullers has revealed.

It comes as Auckland Transport (AT) invests in cycling infrastructure to encourage people to get on their bikes. A $1 million cycleway trial in the Viaduct began earlier this month.

Fullers and AT are now looking at how to make more space for bikes and e-scooters on ferries.

Attached are maps showing the proposed stages of work, and some options for track surfacing. The upgrade stages would be constructed from 2021 to 2024.
The funding for the additional bridges/boardwalks that were consulted on has been pushed out by a few years by council's emergency budget.

The workshop item will be held this Wednesday from 2:30pm to 4pm at the Local Board boardroom in the same building as the Glenfield Library.

All are welcome to attend and listen to the information and discussion, but if you would like the opportunity to address the local board members, please attend our public forum slot at 10am Wednesday 16 June.
