I'm not sure if the Hospice Stores will be open from Monday onwards, any suggestions on how to dispose of them? No time for garage sales and seems a shame to put them in clothing bins which are already overflowing. About a dozen black sacks full. Thanks!

Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes is a world-renowned collection from the Ancient Greek world, and is the largest selection of ancient artefacts ever loaned by the British Museum to New Zealand.
But challenges in bringing international exhibitions to Aotearoa during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic have prompted the rescheduling of Ancient Greeks, which was due to open last month.
Auckland Museum chief executive Dr David Gaimster said the virus has had a major impact on touring exhibitions across the globe and here in Aotearoa.
“We continue to explore other exhibition offerings and their viability and remain committed to the importance of international special exhibitions in bringing the world to Auckland,’ he said.
“We continue to work with international partners on an exciting range of exhibitions for our domestic audiences and look forward to announcing these as soon as they are confirmed.”
The exhibition showcases a wide range of treasures and stories and includes a selection of iconic sculptures from the ‘Mausoleum at Halikarnassos’, one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.

There are at least 13 empty retail spaces on Ponsonby Rd alone.
Heart of the City chief executive Viv Beck said Covid-19 had contributed to an increase in tenancies for lease in central Auckland.
Prior to the virus hitting New Zealand, empty retail spaces were few and far between, with demand “outstripping” what was available.
“We can see that leases aren’t filling as fast as they once were. We’re conscious of the impact this has on vibrancy.”

On Saturday afternoon I went to the supermarket and when I got home I thought I would leave my car running to give the battery a charge as I have been working from home since Covid and the car had been sitting for a while. I intended to return and turn the car off after about half hour or so. Yes you can guess. Like a ding bat I went inside, packed things away, got distracted, and forgot all about the car. In the morning I am relaxing when I hear someone in my house. Next thing I see a guy in my kitchen and he says "we were worried, are you ok........." (I am in my dressing gown - if it couldn't get more embarrassing). The evening before one of my neighbours had spotted the car running when he walked to the dairy. The next morning he noticed it was still running and mentioned it others. They came to my house to check that I was all right, and had even rung the police to say they thought something may be wrong. I was ok, if not very embarrassed. Feeling rather sheepish at the time I don't think I thanked them properly for their caring, observant, community feel. So big thanks to you all, you really made me realise how lucky I am to have neighbours, and a community, like you. PS: I did rang the police to let them know also lol. Love to you all. Kia kaha, Maurice
