This issue we look at some of the worthwhile volunteer roles retirees are filling in our communities, learn about mindfulness at any age, and check out some Kiwi beach travel options while the good weather lasts.

We’re feeling super proud as our daughter, Zoë, has just landed her first job as a primary school teacher! She starts next week, teaching a lively group of 9-10-year-old boys and girls.
Zoë’s classroom budget for the year is only $100, which needs to cover essentials like stationery (coloured and plain A4 & A3 paper, felt tips, whiteboard markers, HB and coloured pencils, cellotape, Blu Tack, etc.) and even reading books. As you can imagine, this doesn’t stretch far for a class of 25+ children.
If you have any unused stationery new or old, lying around at home or books suitable for 9-10-year-olds that your kids have outgrown, Zoë would be incredibly grateful to put them to good use!
She’d be happy to come by and pick them up from you, or you’re welcome to drop them off at our place at 19 Manapau St, Meadowbank (just by the train station).
Thank you so much for supporting a new teacher and helping inspire the next generation to learn, create, and thrive! 🎨✨
Warm regards,
Simon Cope

Here is our latest little backyard gem.
The existing paving was a little bit tired so we removed them, cleaned them up, turned them upside down and relayed on a new compacted level surface. We also installed a Buschbeck Pizza oven which the clients had previously purchased.

Pretty cool little set up now we reckon. 👍🥂

Why Oppose the Gene Technology Bill? This bill undermines protections for our environment, economy, and communities by:
Ignoring Nature's Precautionary Principle: Risks to ecosystems and rural jobs are not protected.
Excluding Treaty of Waitangi Principles: Disregards Māori rights and perspectives.
Shifting Liability: No requirement for GE users to manage risks.
No Supply Chain Segregation: Farmers lose the ability to preserve GE-free crops.
No Labelling: Consumers and farmers won’t know which products are GE-exempt.
No Ethical Standards: Overlooks animal welfare and ethical concerns.
Ignoring Economic Risks: The value of New Zealand’s non-GMO exports is at stake.
Ignoring Reputation Risks: Deregulation threatens New Zealand’s global reputation for clean, safe, GMO-free food, jeopardising a key competitive advantage.
