Stuck at home in lockdown and dreaming of the day when you can enjoy a meal out again?

Well Aucklanders are being asked to share their food stories and nominate the region’s best dishes.

The Iconic Eats Auckland list launched last year with nominations ranging from dishes found at fine dining establishments to cafes, food trucks, markets and hole-in-the-wall offerings.

Winners ranged from traditional dishes to those representing the ethnic diversity of the region.

Auckland Unlimited spokesperson Annie Dundas said Iconic Eats is the “ultimate culinary bucket list” of dishes that can only be enjoyed in Auckland.

“What makes this list unique is the amazing stories submitted with each dish that showcases the diversity of Auckland’s food scene – the talented people, the places, the cultures, the experiences, the flavours,” she said.

One person who submits a story will be declared the winner of Iconic Auckland Eats 2021 and enjoy vouchers for all 100 winning eats.

Nominations are now open and stories can be submitted at www.iconiceats.co.nz... up to 31 August 2021.

Dear neighbours,

We're looking for lockdown gardening ideas! With New Zealanders stuck at home everyone is keen to get into their gardens, but they can't get to the shops to buy plants and seeds. So we want to hear from you some suggestions for crops you can start or sow from what you have on hand or useful gardening hacks using just what you have at home already without going to the shops.

It doesn't have to be a big idea - just something like growing spring onions from the base or sprouting avocado seeds to make a houseplant. Send your tips and ideas to mailbox@nzgardener.co.nz and we'll publish the best ideas in NZ Gardener.

Make sure you include your full name and address - only your name and the region you live in will be published but if we use your tip we will send you a free copy of the magazine.

BREAKING NEWS---NZ woman dies after suffering rare side effect of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine---R.I.P.

Myocarditis is a rare side effect of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. "The CV-ISMB considered that the myocarditis was probably due to vaccination. The CV-ISMB noted that there were other medical issues occurring at the same time which may have influenced the outcome following vaccination," the board said.
"This is the first case in New Zealand where a death in the days following vaccination has been linked to the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine."
The case has now been referred to the Coroner to determine the cause of death. Last month, Medsafe issued a safety alert to raise awareness of the relatively recently discovered side affect; myocarditis. CV-ISMB Chair Dr John Tait reassured health officials are still confident in the use of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in New Zealand. “The Pfizer vaccine is highly effective in protecting against serious illness and death from Covid-19, and we remain confident about using it in New Zealand," he said. The board has advised the Ministry of Health to ensure health professionals are aware of the signs of myocarditis and pericarditis. Up to August 7, five deaths were still under investigation by tjhe Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring over whether they were linked to the vaccine.

All regions outside of the Auckland and Northland region will move to Alert Level 3 11.59pm Tuesday August 31.

In a press conference Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed that Auckland and Northland will likely need to complete a further full two weeks at level 4 in order to keep the Delta variant from spreading further in the regions.

Here's what you need to know
- There will be regional boundaries, there will be no travel allowed between regions unless required for essential services.
- Boundaries maintained in the last February lockdown will be reinstated.
- Around 500 locations of interest have been identified.
- The exposure site in Warkworth is a large workplace. Ardern hoped the people of Northland will understand why they're moving with caution. Northland won't always be grouped in with Auckland.

Significant support is available for businesses following the rise in alert levels announced by the Prime Minister on 17 August 2021.
These measures include:
=====================
• The Wage Subsidy Scheme (WSS). This payment will be available nationally to help eligible businesses continue paying staff and protecting jobs. To reflect increased wage costs, the payments have been increased to $600 for full-time employees and to $359 for part-time employees. This will be open to applications from 9am on Friday 20 August 2021, with applications initially open for two weeks. For more information on the WSS, see www.workandincome.govt.nz...
=======================================
• The Resurgence Support Payment (RSP). This payment will be available to any business or organisation in New Zealand that experiences at least a 30% drop in revenue or a 30% decline in capital-raising ability over a 7-day period, due to a COVID-19 alert level increase of level 2 or higher. This will be open to applications from 8am on Tuesday 24 August 2021 and will be available until one month after a nationwide return to Alert Level 1. For more information on the RSP, see www.ird.govt.nz...
==========================================
• The Leave Support Scheme (LSS). This payment provides a two-week lump sum payment of either $585.80 per week for full-time workers or $350 per week for part-time workers who must self-isolate and cannot work from home. The rates increase to either $600 per week for full-time workers or $359 per week for part-time workers from Tuesday 24 August 2021. For more information on the LSS, see www.workandincome.govt.nz...
========================================
• The Short-Term Absence Payment (STAP). This payment provides a one-off (once per 30 days) payment of $350 for workers who must miss work due to a COVID-19 test and cannot work from home. The rate increases to $359 from Tuesday 24 August 2021. For more information on the STAP, see
www.workandincome.govt.nz...
========================================
• The Small Business Cashflow Scheme (SBCS). This scheme supports small to medium businesses and organisations struggling with a loss of actual revenue due to COVID-19. Applications are open until 31 December 2023. For more information on the SBCS, see www.ird.govt.nz...

We know it may be challenging in the current environment to continue filing returns. However, filing returns ensures information about your businesses is up-to-date and accurate. It will also help support any applications for the Government’s COVID-19 relief packages. For details about filing and paying, see www.ird.govt.nz...

We do understand that payment arrangements might need to be made. Businesses that have an amount to pay can set up a repayment plan to pay it over time. This can be for amounts due now or later. For more information, see www.ird.govt.nz.../difficulty-in-paying-tax

If COVID-19 has impacted your business’s ability to pay tax on time, a request can be submitted for remission of penalties and interest through myIR. For more information on financial relief, see www.ird.govt.nz...
