CON MAN (OR WOMAN) ALERT!!

Stephen from Glen Eden

I have witnessed two attempts tonight by con-men trying to get money out of people:

I have witnessed two attempts tonight by con-men trying to get money out of people:

Con # 1: A tall Indian man at the Bunnings Titirangi undercover car park is spinning a very well-practiced victim-pitch about him being a Navy cadet who needs to get to work in Devonport, and who needs petrol money to do so. The pitch is so articulate as to be utterly unbelievable. Don't fall or it.

Con # 2: A person walked into a local business in Glen Eden, claiming that he had given an expensive tie-down strap to the shop owner, and became increasingly agitated when the shop owner could not recall the receipt of the item. Thankfully the shop owner has 24/7 camera security, and when the con man was asked for a time and date of when he claimed he dropped off the tie down, the con-man beat a hasty retreat. The con here is to try and intimidate or guilt-trip the "mark" by compelling them to pay for an item that was never actually received.

I expect as Christmas approaches, we will see more of this appalling behaviour.

If anyone else has a con story to share, maybe ad it to this post, so others can be aware of them as well.
