There are three community cases, two siblings who are students at Papatoetoe High School, and their household contact.

There was also one new case in MIQ on Wednesday.

Schools in Auckland can reopen. But Papatoetoe High School will remain closed for the rest of the week.

Teachers and students from that school must return a negative test before returning next week.

Covid-19 alert level 3 took effect in Auckland at 11.59pm on Sunday

The Government is making it easier for businesses to get one of its support measures - if current alert levels are extended.

People identified as contacts or who were at the locations of interest are being asked to get tested.

Hi neighbours,

How have you been passing the time during lockdown?

With Auckland back in Level 3, most of us are back working from the kitchen table, juggling work, school and childcare - simultaneously for some.

Last year, Stuff reported on the great array of hobbies New Zealanders picked up during the lockdown, such as home workouts and learning a few new cooking hacks. PC gaming also proved popular with Google search trends for March 2020 showing a 400 per cent search increase for the term.

What are you going to be up to during Level 3? Share your thoughts below and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want your comment featured in the conversations section of the Central Leader.

Hi neighbours,

Auckland is back in alert level three after three new cases of Covid-19 were found in the community.

The locations of interest include LSG SkyChefs, Papatoetoe High School and Pak n Save Manukau on Cavendish Drive.

Aucklanders, including students, are asked to stay home.

Supermarkets, petrol stations and pharmacies will stay open.

Those identified as contacts or who were at the locations of interest are being asked to get tested.

The announcement, made by the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern following a Cabinet meeting on Sunday evening, came after three members of a south Auckland family – a mother, father and daughter - contracted the virus.

The mother and daughter had visited places including Back Beach, Te Rewa Rewa Bridge and Pukekura Park between February 6 and 8.

Aucklanders have saved 100 free-range egg hens from slaughter.

Homes have been found for the brown shaver hens which were due to be culled on a free-range farm in the region.

Animal refuge New Beginnings Rescue and Rehoming had until Friday to find homes in Auckland for the brown shavers, which at 18 months old were moulting and having a breather from egg laying.

Chickens live eight years on average but hens only productively lay eggs in the first two years of their lives.

Dani Prance, who runs the refuge in Taranaki and Auckland’s Rodney District, said the hens were adopted by families in homes ranging from townhouses to big farms.

Prance said she was thrilled the rescue was over.

“Those girls now all get to enjoy a forever home where they can eat loads of bugs, have dirt baths and a lot of grass.”

She said three quarters of the birds were re-homed on Saturday and the rest on Sunday.

“Once the last girls were gone it was time to clean up the equipment we transport in and then finally get some proper sleep.”

The Government has announced on 8th February 2021 a new COVID-19 Short-Term Absence Payment (STAP) scheme which is available from 9th February 2021 through Work and Income.
This scheme is to help support employers for employees, and self-employed workers who:

• cannot work from home, and

• need to miss work to stay home while waiting for a COVID-19 test result (in line with public health guidance).

The STAP payment is a one-off payment of $350 for each eligible worker.

For each eligible worker, you can only apply for it once, in any 30-day period (unless a health official or doctor tells the worker to get another test).

GST is not payable on the STAP.

The STAP is to be processed within the same pay period it is received in with the pay run of the employee’s normal salary or wage for that pay period.

Any amount passed to employees by the employer is ‘excluded income, so this is not to be included as income or claimable as a deduction on their income tax return.

The employee pays tax on the amount they receive. Any excess amount not passed on to an employee is taxable and must be included on the employer's income tax return.

If you are unsure if you are eligible for the STAP payment OR need to include this income in your next income tax return, please contact your GECA Advisor.

Anyone who is unwell should call Healthline on 0800 611 116 or talk to their doctor or health provider. Businesses should encourage their workers to do this if they're unwell.
