City centre road closures on New Year's Eve - residents notification
Dear neighbours,
This New Year’s Eve, some roads in the city centre will be closed between 10pm on 31 December and 2am on 1 January 2020 for the safety of those who will celebrate the turn of the decade in the heart of the city.
There are more people living in the city centre than ever before, and it is clear from previous years that the city precinct is a popular choice for locals and visitors to see in the new year.
Last year, Auckland Transport reported that there was heavy vehicle congestion in the city centre on the night and this year’s road closures – including car park arrival and departure within the closed area – are in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
Fireworks displays, lasting five minutes, will feature on the stroke of midnight, from the iconic Sky Tower and from a barge near Queens Wharf.

Night-time chipsealing works on SH2
From 9 to 17 February, stop/go traffic management will be in place on SH2 between McPherson Road and Dimmock Road on multiple nights between 9pm and 5am (Sundays to Thursdays).
During the day, all lanes will be open, but speed restrictions will apply to allow the chipseal to set and to protect vehicles travelling over the newly laid surface.
There may be delays to your journey when travelling through the area. This is weather dependent so check NZTA Journey Planner before you travel.
