Hurunui council to stop accepting cheques

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

The Hurunui District Council will stop accepting cheques from May 31 as most banks are phasing out cheques this year.

Council chief financial officer Jason Beck said any affected residents should investigate the council's other options in preparation of the end date.

"Cheques have been steadily falling out of favour with many of our customers over recent years, but the banks’ decision to phase them out completely has really hastened the need for those remaining residents and businesses to shift to a different solution,” he said.

"We provide a variety of payment options to suit customers’ preferences. If you are unsure which solution would work for you, please speak to your bank, or come in and chat to our friendly customer service team, or email rates@hurunui.govt.nz".

Other payment options include:
- Direct debit (the council's preferred options)
- In-person using cash, eftpos, credit or debit card at the council's Amberley offices, or at the Amberley Library and the Cheviot, Amuri and Hanmer Springs Library & Service Centres.
- Online on the council website using a credit or debit card www.hurunui.govt.nz...
-Internet bank transfer

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
