Three-year-old boy dies suddenly from infection in West Coast hospital
A 3-year-old boy who died suddenly in a West Coast hospital was symptom-free and playing football hours before he developed an infection his body was unable to fight.
Alexzander Hunt’s parents Mathew and Sapphire Hunt are devastated by the loss of their only child.
“He is my little outdoorsy boy who loves life. He just shouldn’t be gone. He had a huge life to live,” Sapphire Hunt said.
Zander’s death from sepsis – the body’s life-threatening response to infection – was sudden. Streptococcus pneumonia is a bacterial infection of the lungs, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. For reasons researchers don’t understand, sometimes the immune system stops fighting the infection and begins to turn on itself.
