Zoom discussion group (Bible history) during the lockdown
Kia ora neighbourlies,
Is anyone interested in joining a Zoom discussion group during the lockdown. I would like to start such a group discussing 'history of the Bible' and closely related issues. This is not a religious groups; I'm not a Christian and don't want to be. Christians welcome to join though as long as the focus is on the Bible as an historical, literary and cultural artefact, not on what are 'correct' interpretations etc. My idea is that the group could convene via Zoom, and we could discuss a book, or a theme each week. I've recently read John Barton's 'A history of the Bible' as well as some other books such as Edmund Wilson's 'The scrolls from the Dead Sea' and Augustine's "City of God'.
I think something like 6 participants would be ideal. You could have more than one in your 'bubble'.
If you're not familiar with Zoom it is a very use friendly application. You simply go to the site (zoom.us...) and register, then I would send you an invite, and we all log in at the same time. Zoom has camera and microphone, but not the annoying part of Skype which has delays and people speaking over each other.
Let me know if you're interested joanandtony@xtra.co.nz
nga mihi

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
60% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
25.7% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
14.3% ... It is complicated
