Halswell locals defeated as new Bottle-O store approved
A new bottle store in the Christchurch suburb of Halswell has been approved despite the outcry of many locals.
Last year, a company owned by Richard and Wendy Gibbons and their son, Marc, applied to open Bottle-O Halswell at the new Oaks Centre in Ensign St.
The application drew 37 objectors including the Halswell Residents' Association, Southwest Baptist Church, Oaklands School's principal, and Lighthouse Preschool.
The Alcohol District Licensing Authority dismissed the appeal after a three-day hearing in July.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
