Residents without water following leak in Stillwater

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

About 100 residents are without water following a leak in the small West Coast town of Stillwater.

Grey District Council utilities team leader Kurtis Perrin-Smith said a water leak had been discovered at the town's main pipeline just before 8am on Thursday.

He said council contractors were digging to the pipeline, located below State Highway 7 on Main Rd, to make repairs just before 10am.

The exact cause of the leak is not yet known.

"We thank the residents for their patience. There are contractors there repairing the main and we will have the service reinstated as soon as possible," he said.

Water should be restored between 12.30pm and 1pm.

"People may notice their water might be cloudy initially - this is due to air in the line and you can run your outside tap for a bit and it will clear," the council said in a post on its Facebook page.

"If by chance water is not back on your property by 2pm, please call us on 03 769 8611."
