Proposed WDC Rates Hike
Those who read the Waikato times today 3/3/18 would probably have read that the Waikato District Council is intending to bump up our rates. obviously there has been property value increases. The fact that they are going to increase our rubbish charges so soon after changing to the user pay system is bad enough but they are intending to increase our water charges needs to be publicly addressed. They are saying there will be a period of " public information" basically to tell us what they are going to do and they intend to form a Watercare Services, presumably a Council controlled public company. In the only water charge account to date they have stated they intend to lock water in to rates, what rates was not stated. The original information sheet said they were not allowed by law to make a profit and nothing about being slammed for GST It is my belief that this council for some time has been riding rough shod over the townies and what I am wondering is there a desire with the rate payers to form a united Action group? cheers Brin

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
