This includes a proposal to reduce the overall General Rate rise to 2.2% (inflation), and provide $3m in targeted relief. We are also seeking extra funding from central government.

The aim of these measures is to soften the economic blow delivered by COVID-19, and provide extra support to the District as it works to recover.

You can send us your feedback until June 4 at the link below.

Free parking in Whangarei until June 1.

The Team from Whangarei District Council

Parking is free in Whangarei until 1 June, just to make things a little easier as we all get used to COVID-19 Level 2.

While there are no fees, we do need drivers to stick to the parking time limits – that way people getting to the shops for the first time in weeks will be able to find parking.

While there are no fees, we do need drivers to stick to the parking time limits – that way people getting to the shops for the first time in weeks will be able to find parking.

We don’t want anyone parking all day in a limited parking time zone outside shops – that would not be in the spirit of the fee-free fortnight, so our wardens will be keeping an eye on time limits and delivery zones.
