In March we will be sharing our plan with you, you can read what’s been proposed in our Long term Plan consultation document and take a look at the detail that supports it.
Formal consultation starts on 7 March and closes 8 April 2018.

To help us develop this plan we started talking to you about it last year. It gave us a clear idea of the issues that are important to you, and we call these 'Key Issues'.
They include:
* Continuing focus on core assets
* Getting set-up for the future
* Keeping our place nice and making it even better to live here.

Our Public Meetings are being held to provide you with information and hear your comments and any concerns about the plan.
We encourage you to tell us what you think your rates money should be spent on.
Come along to find out more and help to make Whangarei an even better place to live.

A list of our public meetings can be found on our facebook page

In 2017, free HPV immunisations were extended to boys for the first time, with about two thirds of parents choosing to immunise their children through their school immunisation programme.

HPV-related cancers take a long time to develop. The viruses are mostly transmitted in adolescence but often aren’t diagnosed until later. That’s why it’s important for children to be immunised when they’re young.

Around 80% of people will be exposed to HPV in their lifetime. Immunisation can significantly reduce HPV-related harm. Protecting all children before they’re exposed to HPV will protect their health in the future.

Free HPV immunisation at school or from your GP. For more info visit: www.health.govt.nz/hpv

Do you have a current first aid certificate and a phone?

Nic from Central Whangarei

There's a great system called GoodSAM (www.goodsamapp.org...) which works on android, IOS, and just a normal feature phone (ie. a dumb phone). I've been using it for about a month, and it's one of the more sensible uses of technology I've seen in some time.

Once you register with GoodSAM (which requires you to send a copy of your first aid certificate so that they can confirm it's valid), you just get on with your life as normal, and they track you through your phone.

When someone near you calls an ambulance, you get an alert on your phone. If you accept the alert, you are given directions to the casualty, and you help them until the ambulance gets there. If two people accept the alert, the first one gets directions to the casualty, and the second gets directions to the nearest defibrillator, and then to the casualty.

There are very few people (five, so far) registered in and around Whangarei. Obviously, the system will be more useful if more people register. I've had two alerts so far, and the ambulance beat me to the scene both times, which I find quite reassuring.

Other than being a registered user of the app, I have no direct link with the organisation, but I would like to see it succeed as I think it's a great idea.

If you're nervous about the idea of actually having to use your first aid, remember that you'll probably only be there for a few minutes before the ambulance arrives, and the first few minutes can be the difference between someone surviving and dying. Please, if you've got a certificate, consider registering - you might be able to help someone.

Hello All,
I am after adivce on where to go for affordable insurance for over 50 year olds ,can someone tell me who to go through for insurance which is more affordable for House insurance and life, sickness, and permanent ,temporary disability insurance cover.

i am with tower for my house and think that they are asking too much for insurance and are with life direct (or life one i'm not too sure)
They are my life, sickness, and permanent and temporary insurance and are crippling my exspenses very badly with what they charge.

Help and advice very much appreciated
