Reno blogging saved one couple $35k... but it didn't come cheap

Kylie Klein Nixon Reporter from Homed

I've always thought of reno blogging as a way to document a difficult process in a fun, relatable way. The benefit? Emotional support and maybe advice from folks following your journey - and maybe a little ego bump from showing off your mad wallpapering skills.
If you're lucky, and good, you might be given a couple of cans of paint from your local hardware store, to help you on the way - but that would be the icing on the tip of the social media cake.
Few of us would have the energy or knowhow to turn their reno into a part time side hustle that's both creatively fulfilling, and engaging.
But that's exactly what Moochstyle's Shayden and Georgia Whipps have done - with some pawsome help from their gorgeous dog Frankie. They've been blogging their Christchurch villa reno since they bought their home and Shayden shared their story with us for the final episode of First Rung, our podcast. A first time homeowner and renovator, Shayden is such an inspiring guy to chat with. He makes you want to jump in and give it go. Check out his story and let us know what you think.

The Cancer Society is pleased new vaping laws will finally put an end to the marketing of highly addictive products to children and non-smokers.

From November 11, it will be illegal to sell vapes to under 18’s and advertising and sponsorship of vaping products will be banned altogether. Vaping will also be banned in legislated smoke-free areas such as:

- indoor workplaces
- cafes and pubs
- schools and early childhood centres
- public transport.

We think that everyone, especially parents need to be aware that vapes are now R18 and can’t be used in schools.

This has now become a reality, with Emily winning the seat by a margin of 431 votes after special votes.
Northland has also changed colours, with Labour's Willow-Jean Prime winning the seat by an even narrower margin of 163 votes. Unfortunately National's Matt King is too far down on the party list to stay on as MP. It would have been great to have four MP's in Parliament representing all of Northland.
Congratulations to both winning candidates. Isn't it great to live in a country where every vote counts?
For more information (including another seat for the Māori Party, a much narrower result in the cannabis referendum and other developments) see this RNZ article.

I put this post on FB last Saturday. It has been very popular so I have decided to share it here on neighborly. as below.

Feeling blessed today I went into the Whangarei CBD on my mobility scooter went to my favorite cafe Fresh for takeouts the staff were lovely. I sat on my scooter in the sun and watched the shoppers go by while I ate.
So many smiling happy people, then off to Motown for a haircut and more happy people.

Then Pak N Save again on my mobility scooter, it can be difficult to reach high areas 4 different women helped me at different times all with a smile.

Then headed home while going through the town basin my hat blew off, by the time I was able to turn around a young lady asked if she could get it for me.

All assistance today was appreciated thank you the people of Whangarei
