Construction on the highly anticipated highway is expected to begin this year, for completion by 2026.
If Waka Kotahi proceed with tolling the road, there could be different toll prices for peak and off-peak hours. The prices could vary between $1 to $4, with heavy freight paying more than light vehicles.
Three toll points on the road are being considered, meaning motorists will only have to pay for the parts they use. Those who don’t wish to pay the toll may still access free alternative routes.
Waka Kotahi national manager of infrastructure delivery Mark Kinvig said the toll would go towards maintaining the road to keep it “safe and resilient”.
“Variable tolling helps people make choices about when they travel, and therefore the toll price they pay. It will also reduce travel times on Penlink during peak hours,” Kinvig said.
What do you think about Penlink being tolled? Vote in our poll, share your thoughts in the comments below and make your submission to Waka Kotahi here: www.surveymonkey.com...

Hi Neighbours,
Can anyone recommend a good tutor for my daughter commencing her NCEA level 2 Maths (Calculus). She wants a female tutor though. We live in Red Beach so hopefully someone on the Hibiscus Coast. Happy to go to the tutors place (if on Hibiscus Coast) or at our home.
Cheers

Ongaonga has been linked to unexplained deaths of people walking through a dense patch and being overcome. With this mind, I decided to have a go cutting back a particularly annoying patch on our main track to the paddock we call, Waterses.
The Ongaonga bushes were above and below the track so I had to form a strategy so that I would safe. I found a large set of old tree branch loppers (giant secateurs) in the shed and then opted to take a piece of cloth, that used to cover our cool display cabinet in my old café.

Hokitika has been named the most welcoming town in NZ in Booking.com's 10th annual Traveller Review Awards.
Would be keen to hear from those who live there or who have visited whether they think the town really is exceptionally friendly. What makes it a welcoming place, or otherwise? Were there any cafes, restaurants, shops or other places you received a particularly warm welcome?
Lake Tekapo and Oamaru came in second and third place respectively, followed by Cambridge, Picton, Invercargill, Martinborough, Kerikeri and Palmerston North. Would also love to hear from you if you have thoughts on these places. Please include 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts?
