Karamea kids strike for climate
Karamea Area School students used their strike time on Friday to plant flax and cabbage trees to help restore wetland areas.
Organiser Jimmy Daamen, a year 11 student, says they decided to strike because they wanted the "governments of the world to take more action to provide a safe climate future for our generation and future generations to come".
"The New Zealand Government in particular needs to be more ambitious with its Zero Carbon Bill to fit the 11-year time frame before our climate effects on the planet become irreversible," he says.
