Gondola proposed to help tourists see retreating Franz Josef Glacier
The company behind a proposed gondola over the West Coast's Franz Josef Glacier is "cautiously positive" the project will be given the green light.
Tourism company Skyline Enterprises, which operates gondola networks in Queenstown and Rotorua, has been working on a submission to the Department of Conservation for the construction of the gondola for more than a year.
DOC will make the final decision on whether construction will go ahead after public consultation on its draft management plan for Westland Tai Poutini National Park closes on February 4.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
