Bevis, a resident at Ryman’s Anthony Wilding Village, recently received a gentleman’s makeover. The day began at the barbershop where Bevis and his barber Kohl shared plenty of laughs. Next up, a personal stylist helped Bevis select clothes he looked and felt great in. Being pampered isn’t the norm for Bevis but based on his smile, we’re confident he loved every minute.

The small facility, tucked into a section of the community centre, was closed in autumn for safety reasons when the country went into Covid alert level 2, and has not reopened.
Inangahua Community Board member Rachel Fifield, whose husband runs a private gym in Reefton, told a board meeting earlier this year that the community gym did not meet current safety standards for the industry.
Unstaffed gyms should have non-slip floors and accessible panic buttons, in case someone exercising alone had an accident, she told the Greymouth Star.
Since then the council had been told the gym was unsafe and was seeking advice on that, community services manager Rachel Townrow said.
"We had some submissions in June and July that the gym didn't comply with health and safety standards for unmanned gyms, so we're continuing the temporary closure while we check that.
"It may be that it's still needed in the long-term -- no decision's been made yet."
Although the gym had few subscription-paying members last year, several Reefton people have told the Greymouth Star they used it on a casual basis and missed the convenience of being able to work out at any time of the day or night.
The equipment including steppers, cross trainers, exercise bikes and weights, was bought partly with council funds and partly through community donations, including business sponsorships, about 10 years ago.

* The tender for the $1.4 million upgrade of Reefton's water supply has gone to the Christchurch and Greymouth-based firm, Tru-Line Civil Ltd. Buller District Council will sign the contract with the company this week and work will start this month. The council has granted easements for the new pipework under The Strand and camping ground recreation reserve.
* An architect has been engaged to come up with a heritage look for new public toilets on Broadway. The council has chosen 'Permaloo' to replace the dilapidated toilet block, and build an accessible alternative.
* Some towns have fairy doors in their parks to entrance small children: Reefton will soon have mini-mine doors. Schoolchildren have helped design the decorative doors to be installed in the park area of The Strand, as a Toddler Walk.
* Fundraising has almost reached its target of $25,000 for Reefton's 150th public lighting anniversary - with a council community grant of $9900. Organisers are focusing on a week of celebrations and special events leading up to January 17. The Strand will be party central - with music, food stalls, dancing - and fireworks at the racecourse to top off the festival weekend.
