Our Coordinator at Hastings District Council recently sent us this snap from a get together with residents from a new suburb who are keen to get Neighbourhood Support up and running.
To gauge interest, he hosted a free barbecue at a park with the support of their local New Zealand Police to bring neighbours together to discuss setting it up. Every group is different in how it chooses to operate. Our policy is whatever works best for your area!

Arthur Ransome more than ‘Swallows and Amazons
Cheryl Paget, co-ordinator of The Arthur Ransome Society in New Zealand will be giving a talk will be about Arthur Ransome the man, his children’s novels, and the rumour that he acted as a British Spy during the Russian Revolution.
There was much more to Arthur Ransome than the Swallows and Amazons novels alone. He wrote more than twenty-five other books, on a wide range of subjects, many related to his own life, experience and interests which were wide-ranging, exciting and deeply fascinating.

About the speaker
Currently living in Island Bay, Cheryl Paget was born in Scotland and brought up in Suffolk, England, immigrating in 2009 to New Zealand as a single Mum with two boys. Cheryl cites Anne of Green Gables as the biggest influence on her life, deciding at a very early age that she would go to University to study English Literature just like Anne Shirley.
Cheryl completed her studies at Warwick University with an MA in Literature for Children in 1994. The other biggest literary influence was Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons series. As the New Zealand Co-ordinator for the Arthur Ransome Society, Cheryl gets to release her inner Nancy every year when organising the society’s annual weekend get-togethers.

We have considerable challenges to maintain our current network and be prepared for growth. We are a German family of 4, mum Romy, Dad Mario, Elina 6 and Millie 1. We recently moved to New Zealand from Cambridge UK, where we lived for the last 3 years. We enjoy being away from home and thought why not moving to New Zealand whenever there would be an opportunity and here we are, enjoying our first few weeks very much. Mario works as a research fellow at GNS Science and VUW and Romy is currently at home until the girls are both settled in school and kindergarten. We are an open minded, easygoing and very social family and very experienced in renting homes, whoever is looking for nice tenants who will take good care of their home, will most probably be happy with us. :)
