Every Friday morning dozens of people who suffer from strokes, Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions fill up a Porirua dance hall to dosey doe, salsa, and disco dance.
But they are not just there for fun, but to improve their brains.
Dancing has so many beneficial effects on the brain that it is now being used to treat people with Parkinson’s disease, which affects about 1 in 500 Kiwis.
“Motion is lotion, getting people moving is really important,” dance leader and physiotherapist Rachel Horwell said.
What do you do to keep fit and stimulate your brain?

Newtown Workingmen's Bowling Club is set to close at the end of this month, four years after surviving a joint police and Wellington City Council operation to close it.
A community drive is now underway to save it from demolition.
Club members unanimously agreed last month to close the club, which is on Town Belt land on Owen St, on May 31. The council aimed to get the club to demolish the building within six months of May 31, said spokesman Richard MacLean.
The council tried to close the club in 2017, after arguing it was creating multiple noise complaints and was being run as a cheap drinking hole rather than a sports club. By that point, membership was down to 24.

Billing System for dowtown Wellington Water Rates

Jeanne from Miramar

Or... system NOT!
Water meter in Mt Cook read on 15 April and today 17 MAY still no invoice received. This is needed as part of outgoings to be organised with a tenant.
Advised today after having to take the time to phone WCC that the invoices should be printed today from above reading date!

Anyone else have thoughts on: In 2021

WHY the Water Rates invoice cannot be e-mailed out?
Why it takes So long from meter being read to invoice being 'printed' never mind then having to wait the mail delivery time??
Why to get a copy of Water Rates invoice you have to wait for the printing so a scanned copy can be emailed to you - on your request.???

C'mon WCC - what SYSTEM is this in 2021?????

"Siam came in my cat door six years ago with this sponge in his mouth and dropped it at my feet as a gift for me. His owner gave him to me because he just refused to go and six years on, he still brings the same sponge to me every night. I'm pretty sure it is the equivalent of roses in his mind."
