Rush, who emphasised there was “a lot of Māori in the Rush family”, said he was concerned about the divisive route New Zealand was increasingly going down.
Councillors voted on Thursday to send staff away to compile a report on getting mana whenua representation on council committees. That report is due back on December 3.

Wellington City Council is installing the racks to accommodate the public share e-scooters at the 10 busiest places where people start or end their rides, although people who have their own e-scooters or push scooters can also use them.
The racks are known as Ruru racks as they resemble an owl’s face.
Councillor Tamatha Paul, Portfolio Lead for Climate Change, says the Ruru racks can also be converted to include e-charging for scooters and the Council may look at this and other e-bike charging options in the future.
The racks will provide free parking for up to 93 scooters at a range of locations.

From picking up her keys and carrying her cane, to leading her to a chair when her vision blacks out and helping her up when she falls, the golden labrador is worth her weight in, well, gold.
Before she had Bindi to sleep heavily on her legs at night, she would get up and move around the house in response to hallucinations she’d suffered since she was a child.
During the Covid-19 lockdown earlier in the year, when Helen spent 12 weeks at home alone because immune-compromised, Bindi rescued Helen from a fall.
