Annual Plan Consultation begins today
Our Annual Plan 2020-21 Consultation is about the changes we have made to Year 3 of our Long Term Plan 2018-28 in response to COVID-19. This includes a proposal to reduce the overall General Rate rise to 2.2% (inflation), and provide $3m in targeted relief. We are also seeking extra funding from central government.
The aim of these measures is to soften the economic blow delivered by COVID-19, and provide extra support to the District as it works to recover.

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

Warrant to arrest: Steven Te Maru Walters
Police are working to locate Steven Te Maru Walters, who has a warrant for his arrest and is wanted by Police.
Walters, 40, is wanted by Police in relation to breaching his release conditions and is known to frequent the Whangārei area. It’s believed he is actively avoiding Police.
