Auckland will remain in lockdown until Sunday, a four-day extension of the lockdown which was meant to lift on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said there were promising signs that the Government was getting on top of the virus, but a short extension was recommended by director-general of health Ashley Bloomfield.

On Sunday night Auckland would move down to level 2. The rest of the country would stay at level 2.

Ardern said the rest of the country needed to stay at an elevated alert level to mitigate the risk of cases leaving Auckland when interregional travel resumed. Click here to read more.

Recently we discussed the progress of the HAC in this Neighbourly thread. The chief executive for the project has now asked WDC for close to $300,000 of financial support in a worst-case scenario with no international visitors in its first year, as reported by RNZ.
I don't want to kick off yet another discussion of the project, because many of us are already tired of the topic, and no matter if we love it or hate it, we're stuck with it now and have to make it work. For that reason I've disabled the replies to this post. I do however think that we deserve to know what additional financial support the project is expecting from us, directly by asking us to "dip into our savings" or indirectly by asking WDC for money to supplement ticket prices.
In any case, I hope that there is a lesson to be learned from the pandemic, to no longer base business models on optimistic best-case scenarios that depend on a lot of people being at a certain place at a certain time spending a certain amount of money.

One of these pictures doesn't belong - can you work out which one?

On 29 January this year our Government announced full funding for the Penlink project. The allocation of $411 million as well as the project being brought forward to start next year, made the front page of the Hibiscus Matters. It was the first time ever that a government committed funding to the Penlink project instead of just making promises.
Seems one of the opposition MPs missed the news...
