๐Ÿšง The general rubbish pit at Southbrook Resource Recovery Park will be closed for maintenance on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 August. ๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿšซ

The Team from Waimakariri District Council

Contractors will be on site to renew a section of the floor that has reached the end of its life.

The green waste area, recycling centre and Resale Shop will remain open, and we will continue to accept Council-branded rubbish bags at the recycling centre.

Waimakariri Councillor Robbie Brine says the transfer station was built over 25 years ago.

โ€œMore than 416,000 tonnes of rubbish has been dropped into the pit and pushed into the compactor since the site opened in mid-1998, and this section of the pit floor has reached the end of its life. This renewal will ensure that we can keep providing the expected level of service to our customers until we can complete our planned site upgrades.โ€

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.

Automation (or the โ€œunpaid shiftโ€) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.

We want to know: What do you think about automation?
Are you for, or against?

Poll: Would you take a 1.5-hour hike for a shop? ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Canterbury, you have a hidden treasure right on your doorstep ... though it does come with a 1.5-hour walk up the stunning Rakaia Gorge Walkway.

Along the trail youโ€™ll find The Fantail Shop showcasing small artworks by local artisans. Even better, every purchase supports the Fantail Trust, helping protect and restore biodiversity on the north bank of the gorge.

So weโ€™re curious: would you take a 1.5-hour hike for a shop? (And for local biodiversity, of course ๐ŸŒฟ)
