Missing Bantam Chicks
This morning, we found two of our bantam chicks were missing from the coup. See photo attached, the wee ginger one and one of the white ones is missing. They are a bit bigger now at 12 weeks.
No sign of any predation and no sign of them anywhere on the property. Very strange. Difficult to see how an animal would have got them out of the coup and stoats, rats etc usually leave evidence. Plus Phyllis their mum is very staunch and would defend the chicks to the hilt. The only thing she would run away from is a human. If you hear of anyone turning up with a couple of bantam chicks could you let us know. These are Silkie cross chicks and are quite distinctive with the Boris Johnson moptop hairdo. Their mum is upset. If they have been taken for egg production then the thief is going to be disappointed. They are bantams, not chickens, they have a very short egg laying season and the eggs are small. They are pets rather than egg layers.
