Tatiana was a really timid girl who has really come out of her shell since finding a new home courtesy of the SPCA.
"You might be as shocked and as surprised as I am to know how well Tatiana is doing already. She's out of her box most of the time and is now running to me when I call her for lots of headbutts and head rubs. She's very chatty and is becoming comfortable walking around, exploring the house, and sitting on the windowsills and watching the world already. I chose the right cat, she's quite a character and is actually quite a brave, young lady."

Upper Hutt has joined the rest of the country and is now requiring vaccine passes for its buildings. A confirmed Covid-19 case in the Hutt Valley has led to the council reversing its controversial decision not to use vaccine passes for most council facilities, including libraries.
β€œGiven this [case] and the high transmission rate of the Delta strain, we have made the decision to change the settings at our public facilities, moving to more restrictive settings,” the council said in a statement.
Mayor Wayne Guppy is urging everybody to wear masks and follow the guidelines on wearing masks.

Another beautiful pic from Louise Thomas.
"So cool to see a bellbird (Anthornis melanura), aka korimako, today. I can't remember the last one I saw - possibly around Christmas time, when I snapped one in red mistletoe at Mt Ruapehu. My daughter actually spotted this guy. "Mum, look, … View more

Front page headlines in Upper Hutt Leader December 15, 2021: Work starts on $100m hub project.
First paragraph includes: work has begun on a new earthquake resistant commercial hub (etc etc).

Love to advise the unnamed writer that work in earnest started nearly three months ago on the Blue Mountains Campus and lots of people can vouch for this as they file past almost every day.

If this is the news of the day, then there is little use for the Leader as a newspaper.

In fact most of the information in this main item of the Dec 15 edition has previously been documented in better format in the Leader which at the time was considerably behind other news media including the DomPost, Stuff and the Willis Bond website.

The Hutt Valley has become the sixth region to achieve a full vaccination rate of 90 per cent.
Ministry of Health figures show the milestone was achieved on Monday, with the Hutt Valley District Health board joining the Auckland, Waitematā, Capital & Coast, Canterbury and Southern DHBs that have also reached the mark.
While the overall population in the valley has reached the Government target, Māori and Pasifika uptake is behind at 78 and 84 per cent, respectively. The proportion of partially vaccinated people in those populations are 89 per cent for Māori and 92 per cent for Pasifika.
