So far reported Russian losses in what started as a one-sided war is pretty impressive if you are one of those who support Ukraine as very much the victim and Russia as the aggressor without emphathy.
NZ & Australia supports Ukraine and have sent money, equipment, specialist personnel, and troops (stationed in the border country of Poland). It could be that our soldiers came via Trentham and part of their training was in the Trentham Racecourse and Grant's Bush Reserve (nah, the latter - just joking).
Here is a list of Russian losses to date. The main conjecture is attack force numbers killed.
Personnel: 22,400
Transport and supply vehicles 1666
Armoured personnel carriers 2342
Tanks 939
Artillery 421
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles 207
Planes 185
Helicopters 155
Multiple launch rocket systems 149
Fuel tankers 76
Anti aircraft systems 71
Ships 8

Gillies Group and the racecourse management led by its president, Wayne Guppy can now proceed with the consent phase.
Presumably the racecourse is looking to build up to six stories of apartments most of which will be one bedroom dwellings and they estimate the development will house around 1800 people. Also planned is a small shopping "village" and I take it that improvements made to current facilities including a revamped conference centre.
Some of the Govt handout to the Trentham project will go to infrastructure such as roading interchange development and water storage.
Whilst this was excellent news for Upper Hutt and indeed the Wellington region, other big Upper Hutt proposed developments missed out in being a recipient of the billion dollar handout. These include the Silverstream forest housing development and the St Patrick's College housing and retirement village development. It is a probability that both these projects will still go ahead

With the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment diverting at least some of its operation to the campus to the tune of 130 or so staff, it now brings up over 350 staffers committed to working at this site. The other business committed to renting/leasing space so far is Kiwi Rail.
So we are starting to see the diverging of Government operations/departments from Wellington city out into the "suburbs"/region. In Wallaceville, there is less likely an earthquake impact.
I would estimate that after three completed stages at the campus development, the number working at the campus will be closer to 1000 than 500.
There will certainly by a cafe and a fitness gymn installed at the campus and it is likely the cafe if not the gymn will be also open to the public ie non working staff at the campus.
Other shopping precinct type businesses would be welcomed to be set up in the campus - I can think of a hair dressing salon for starters. I can only hope that the two nearby dilapidated dairies and Scoops Take Away will up their game - it will be in their interests and less of an embarrassment.
