Torrential rain and a flooded bridge keep them stranded for three days. What they get up to, to help pass the time, raises a few eyebrows and will have you laughing, tearing up and applauding enthusiastically as they bare all.

A 48ha block of mature trees around Maymorn is being harvested and this will continue through to Christmas. GWRC and PF Olsen have done everything we can to ensure visitor safety and part-access to the forest during the harvesting. All the information is on our website – please use it to plan your trip. An invitation is extended to all business and community groups operating in Upper Hutt to join this community event and enter a ‘Christmas Carols’-themed float in the parade. Think Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer rolling down the street, Snoopy’s Christmas flying in for a visit, or Jingle Bells rocking the block!
There is a $1,000 prize for the float that best reflects the theme of ‘Christmas Carols’ and a $250 prize for the People’s Choice Award, voted on social media in the week following the parade. This work will unlock significant visitor potential of the isolated and beautiful area. … View moreWork’s begun on replacing the Baring Head Bridge across the Wainuiomata River to East Harbour Regional Park, a construction project assuring future access to Baring Head’s spectacular lighthouse complex.
This work will unlock significant visitor potential of the isolated and beautiful area. Realising the visitor experience depends on replacing the 86-year old bridge, which has reached the end of its useful life, to provide reliable and safe vehicle access over the river.
Access is still possible by foot and cycles. Contractors are on site now and once construction is finished, the old bridge will be taken down. We’re excited to have this underway and the new bridge in place before Christmas.
