Dress up, be "bad" and help raise funds for victims of Strokes

Reporter Upper Hutt Leader

It was reported in Stuff in June that the number of strokes are on track to increase by 40 per cent over the next decade unless urgent action is taken to reduce the looming healthcare burden.
Strokes affect people of all ages. Around a quarter of all strokes will occur in people under the age of 65 and about 40 children have a stroke every year in New Zealand.
Fundraising is important to enable the organisations who support people with strokes to continue their work.

This year Stroke Central and Kauri Theatre have joined forces to hold a fundraising ‘Bad Girls (& Boys) Ball’ on August 24, so named to reflect Kauri Theatre’s production of Bad Girls the Musical - to be staged in September at the Gryphon Theatre.

The ball is being held at The Boatshed in Wellington on Friday, August 24, 2018. It is not a fancy dress event just an opportunity to dress up and have fun The cost of the ticket includes live music, food, entertainment and spot prizes.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
