A group of Silverdale residents are in a battle over expressway noise.
Essentially, half a milion cubic metres of noise-absorbing fill the road should have had was moved elsewhere, leaving a 200m-long cut that funnels road noise straight to their house.
Waka Kotahi says traffic noise "is within the limits imposed by the traffic noise conditions".

Locals say cyanobacterial algal blooms in the river’s hydro lakes have become more frequent over the past five years, and when they arrive no-one can swim or fish in them.
