During the weekend of 19-20 August Otorohanga will host New Zealand's first Steam Festival.  A steam drawn train will bring several hundred passengers from Auckland to spend a weekend at Otorohanga.

Local residents will have the opportunity to home-host our city visitors.

The railway precinct, tracks and Wahanui Cres. will play host to a myriad of steam and vintage vehicles, food stalls and entertainment onthe main stage.

While our visitors from Auckland travel to various sights around the district, locals will have a variety of steam excursion trips to Te Kuiti and Te Awamutu, and on Saturday evening a dinner trip to Hamilton will see guests served canapes and bubbly enroute to Hamilton Station from where they will be bussed the The Narrows Landing Restaurant for a great evening of food and dancing. The return trip back to Otorohanga will be hosted by WiKi Kiwi and friends.

Attached picture shows where I am - gold star. If traffic heading south-east on Lincoln St towards the Rifle Range Rd roundabout is queued back as far as the Caltex exit opposite that's very unscientifically "a traffic jam".

Mon, Tue and Wed this week dry and sunny.
Monday - no 8am jam but school traffic jam from 0830 until 0845 and for less than a minute actually stationary at 0835 but mostly moving slowly.

Tues and Wed - no 8am or school traffic jam at all.

Next week shows rain every day - will repeat the exercise next Mon, Tue, Wed and report back.

There were queues the other way for Forest Lake but that's another story.

blue stickered black rubbish bag left at our letterbox

After 3 weeks and not been collected by the council rubbish truck, I realised it had been blue stickered due to the weight of the bag, even though it was only half full. So this week I opened the bag to find piles of undelivered circulars/pamplets for supermarkets, warehouse etc. I should have rung the manager for the area to advise them that probably one of their lazy delivery persons just couldnt be bothered delivering them.
I divided the contents into 4 bags so the Council rubbish collector would pick the bag up. (Which they did)
Next time I will be informing an area manger, so please keep an eye out for this if happens at your letterbox.
