Police are warning avocado growers of a "significant spike" in thefts from orchards as prices soar.

Four men targeted an Athenree orchard in the Bay of Plenty, but fled before police arrived. Police said they were expecting a spike in thefts from avocado orchards because of soaring avocado prices.

If anyone spots suspicious behaviour or vehicles hanging around orchards, they should call their police station. Orchardists should consider reinforcing shelter belts with fencing, sensor lights, and concealed trail cameras. Advise neighbours when you're absent to keep watch over the property.

If anyone is offered a significant amount of avocados from an unofficial source at a heavily discounted price, they should report it to police.

It was made from a pair of jeans from an op shop. "All of my gardening clothes come from op shops," she says. "Large men's shirts make good cover-ups to keep sun and insects off my arms. For the apron, start with a smaller size than you would wear so it doesn't wrap around too far. Check that it has a lot of pockets." So tell us if you've got similarly fashionable, exclusive-for-the-garden glad rags, and if yes, why not post a photo in the Reply space too!

Black plane circling Brookfield/tauranga

Shell from Brookfield

Hi! Who else has heard/seen the big black plane that flys low over the Brookfield/tauranga area? It always circles around at least three times, and flys very low.

Any idea who/what it is? There are no markings on the plane.

Thanks!

Manrobe

Tanya from Tauranga City

Hi there,
I’m on the hunt for a manrobe (one of those pieces of furniture that has a cupboard down one side and drawers down the other). I’m not worried if it needs a little work. Preferably Art Deco style but will consider anything.
