The connection marks a major milestone in the complex repair project required after the washout that occurred on July 2 as it means wastewater is no longer being pumped across the worksite.
Chief executive Gareth Green said this is a huge relief for all involved and clears the way for the next stage of repairs.
“Having to pump wastewater across the worksite has been very challenging, and now that we have our new pipe up and running we can remove that from the equation, focus on finishing the other services and get the road open. We’d like to thank the community for their help by reducing water use in the last 24 hours – it was greatly appreciated – and our contractors and council staff who have been putting in long hours to get to this point. We can all go back to normal water usage now – so there is no longer a need to reduce flushing, showering and baths, and washing machine use in Taupō,” he said.
"This is a great milestone for us all - you've done yourselves proud Taupō!"

The $55 timber Occasional Chair is the latest casualty, although this is a withdrawal rather than a recall. We don't know the reason for its withdrawal, except Kmart says it is for "a potential quality issue". But what other products have been found wanting?

Hi neighbours,
The traffic lights at the intersection of Norman Smith Street and Wairakei Drive are set to go live about 2pm on Monday.
The council says the lights will help with traffic flow issues.
So what do you think? Do you think the lights will improve traffic flow in the area?

The introduction of traffic lights marks the final milestone in the five phase project that has seen safety improvements introduced to the area over the last three months.
While residents and road users may be familiar with the general layout of the intersection, Project Manager Ian Gray said caution needed to be taken when using it as the last of the required line marking work would be done on Monday ahead of the traffic lights going live. Normal road rules applied, and digital screens on the approaches would alert motorists the traffic lights had been turned on.
“We encourage everyone to take their time using the lights and be aware of others while we all get used to the new system,” he said. “The traffic lights going live mark the end of the work and should help motorists navigate the intersection more easily and quickly. Although we do not expect the improvements to relieve all congestion issues, particularly during busy holiday and event periods, we know they will make a positive difference to travel times, particularly for Nukuhau and Acacia Bay residents travelling into Taupō town centre.”

A new law in Wales says schools are required to have gender-neutral uniforms.
This means that while uniforms can include both skirts and pants, schools can't label these as "girls" or "boys" items.
Should NZ follow suit?
